Bmore Twinklers is a Suzuki learning community for children age 0 to 18 and their families. Children ages 0 through 3 participate in Suzuki Early Childhood Education class with a parent or carer. This is a wonderful introduction to the concepts and implementation of the Suzuki method – please take a look at the “SECE” page on this site for more information.
The violin studio also utilizes the Talent Education approach to learning, which was innovated and developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, and adheres closely to the way a child learns their native language.
How We Learn – The Early Years
Although not required, beginning students are frequently aged 3 to 5 years. Young students are most successful when the Parent – Teacher – Student “triangle” forms the basis of collaborative, supportive learning. Working together to make lessons and home practice an outgrowth of the natural, child-directed process of language acquisition requires more from parents than other approaches. Parental involvement is highly valued and respected, so parent support is an integral part of the studio. Parent Night, parent/teacher conferences, Parents as Partners Online, and the forum on this site are among the offerings. All are free of charge or at very low cost. You will be given the tools you need to feel confident in your role!
How We Learn – The Later Years
Parents are asked to attend lessons with their children through age 12, take notes, and “coach” practice during the week. It is certainly fine to continue attending lessons beyond age 12. Students 13 and older are offered the opportunity to transition at their own pace to more independent study, enhanced by peer group activities such as participation in youth orchestras, summer institutes, and local “lab” groups or events.
